I always loved playing sport and golf was no exception. I enjoyed interacting with people who shared this passion and later grew a love for ensuing golfers had a memorable golfing experience. |
How long have you been in your current position?
3 years |
What does your job entail?
The overseeing of the entire golf club operations.
Do you have any environmental or sustainability goals that you have met and would like to share?
Yes, we are lucky in that we are situated in the Lowveld region of Mpumalanga and have numerous indigenous trees, small game and a wide variety of birds. Our drive was to create the Ultimate Bushveld Golfing experience and we introduced environmental areas into the course layout which adds to this. Ask any golfers who has played Mbombela and they will express the beauty of the flora and fauna. |
Please give us a brief outline of the path you took to lead you to your current position | Having joined the PGA as a full member in April 2009 I have enjoyed ten plus years of being a member of the association and the opportunities it has presented me.
From learning the trade under Darren Millington to running my own Pro-Shop and later the Operations Director of Pollak Park to the now CEO position at Mbombela Golf Club it has been a truly enjoyable journey. |
Why do you feel that you would be a good candidate to win this award?
This year has been extremely difficult and rewarding. We hosted the GOLFRSA Premier Inter-Provincial tournament, which was a huge success and a first for any Mpumalanga golf club, hosted a memorable PGA National Pro-AM and created a RUGBY FAN PARK which saw around 400 people attend each Boks Game. The Covid-19 pandemic created a mammoth task, and I am proud that we were able to keep every employee on board and remunerate them through this hardship, but at the same time ensuring the sustainability of the club.
I am an active and proud member of the PGA and ensure that the brand is well represented at all times, except possibly when I swing my own clubs |
