What led you to becoming a PGA Professional?
I grew up playing golf at Irene Country Club and for some or other reason I was always interested in the golf shop and the prospect of having my own someday. When I was in my teens my parents joined me at Centurion Country Club as we had moved onto the estate. I quickly got to know Kevin and Desiree Stone as I was always at the club. I also befriended Llewellyn van Leeuwen and assisted him with his Junior Holiday Clinics. My interest in becoming a PGA Professional simply grew from there and when the time came for me to decide on whether I would pursue a career on the tour or to begin my apprenticeship, the latter came out tops. |
How long have you been in your current position?
10 years |
What does your job entail?
Predominantly coaching but also involved in Programme Development and Range Management. |
Do you have any environmental or sustainability goals that you have met and would like to share?
I have worked closely with the Facility Maintenance Team to utilise organic/environmentally friendly fertilizers on our greens. Happy to say that it has been a success and the overall maintenance cost has dropped. Our main goal at TuksGolf Academies, as a result of being linked to an educational institution, has been to develop and service sustainable golfing programmes that incorporate an educational facet. |
Please give us a brief outline of the path you took to lead you to your current position | I started my apprenticeship in 2005 under Kevin Stone at Centurion Country Club. In 2007 I moved to Gardener Ross (now the Els Club at Copperleaf) and occupied the position of Head Professional as well as Golf Shop Manager and Head Coach. In 2010 I was approached by TuksGolf Academies and started there in January 2011. |
Why do you feel that you would be a good candidate to win this award?
I have devoted myself to becoming a top golf coach and believe that I have learnt how to help players of all levels. I continue to learn every day and hope to keep improving. I have also been nominated on numerous occasions over the past years 😉 haha |
