Richard Kaplan- Head PGA Professional

Houghton Golf Club

What led you to becoming a PGA Professional?

At first, I had to sign up through the Gary Player Golf Experience, but then I was happy that they made us do it as I quickly started to realise the brand and everything it stood for.

How long have you been in your current position?

10 years
What does your job entail?

Shop/retail and teaching. Also help with Golf Ops at the club. I was also Club Captain recently for 3 years.

Do you have any environmental or sustainability goals that you have met and would like to share?

Please give us a brief outline of the path you took to lead you to your current position

Played on Tour from 1986 upon turning pro, then stopped in 2002, and taught at the World of Golf from 2003 up till 2009, before Houghton. Been a Houghton member for about 46 years, so came back ‘home’ as Director of Golf when the club re-opened in 2010, and then took over the shop and Head Pro role in 2011.

Why do you feel that you would be a good candidate to win this award?

Experience, mentorship, the old-fashioned way!!
